What Is Admob?
Admob is a Google ads network that allows mobile developers to monetize their apps. It is specifically designed for mobile apps, enabling developers to earn from their work. Developers generate revenue with Admob by integrating in-app ads from advertisers.
The online advertising space has grown rapidly over recent years, pushing other forms of advertising like print, radio, television and magazines to the sideline. It is expected to reach $700 billion in revenue by 2025.
As far as online advertising is concerned, Google has been a frontier in helping advertisers promote their businesses through its various ad networks such as;
- Website AdSense – For website owners to display Ads on their website
- YouTube AdSense – For video creators to display ads on their videos
- AdMob AdSense – For App owners and developers to display Ads on their Apps
All three ad networks and platforms are by Google, however, they have different features and are tailored to different types of publishers and audiences.
AdMob AdSense works with both Android and iOS allowing developers to boost their revenue by showing high-quality ads on their mobile app
How Does Admob Work?
AdMob works with advertisers who wish to promote their businesses to mobile app users. These ads are displayed through various formats on mobile apps created by mobile app developers.
You can watch these series of videos solely dedicated to AdMob on Short Crash Course to learn more
Admob supports different ad formats such as banner ads, interstitials, and rewarded video ads. It also offers great targeting options to reach the right audience and deliver results.
Developers are provided with hybrid revenue models that allow them to balance in-app advertising and in-app purchases to boost their revenue.
Admob PROs
Admob offers lots of benefits to mobile developers that allow them to earn while maintaining the authenticity of their mobile apps. Here are some Admob Pros for developers to consider:
Access to a network of international advertisers and developers
Making money with Admob is a game of numbers, the more advertisers an app is exposed to, the more revenue it’s likely going to make.
With a rich network of advertisers on Google, Admob promises a great return on investment for developers.
Total Customization Control
Developers still maintain the authority on what type of ads to show on their mobile app. This allows them to uphold their brand reputation, user experience and authority.
Google Analytics
With the integration of Google Analytics, developers have access to data such as app engagement, performance, interaction and total revenue generated.
This data helps developers to make informed decisions on the type of ads to show to the users.
Many Types of Ads
Developers can decide on what type of ads to show to their users, however, this is optional as developers can decide to show any and many types of ads to their users.
Admob Cons
Let us also consider the likely disadvantage for Admob that may hinder developers from reaching their full revenue potential;
A minimum of $100 payment threshold: This means that developers do not have access to their earnings until it is $100.
Little Pay for New Developers
If you are just joining the AdMob program, your first payment is likely going to be very low for starters. However, with consistency and putting in the right amount of work, your account may soon hit seven figures in the shortest possible time.
How To Sign Up On Admob

Now that you have created an Admob account, the next step is to integrate it into your app to start earning.
Here is how to integrate an Admob account into your mobile app:
Firstly, sign in to your newly created Admob account with your details. Proceed to log into your dashboard to create an Admob ID.
You will be required to connect your app to Firebase by selecting the options in the application setting.
To finish the integration process, you will include the meta-data in the androidmanifest.xml file to integrate your Admob application ID.
Finally, set up the mobile ads SDK!
How much can you earn with Admob on a monthly or yearly basis? That is what we are about to cover next.
Admob Earnings
One thing to consider as a developer is how much you can earn as a developer. While there are vast opportunities to earn from Admob, Admob earnings are influenced by a variety of factors but not limited to:
Revenue Model
The revenue model for Admob is a 60: 40 ratio. With 60% being for developers while Google takes 40% of revenue from advertisers. Therefore, for every ad that is shown on the mobile app, developers earn 60% for it while Google takes 40% for Admob services.
Another revenue model is the cost per mile (CPM) which varies from $0.2 to $10 per one thousand (1000) impressions.
User Engagements
Another factor that influences earnings is the user engagement of the app. The daily and monthly active users will determine how much developers can earn with their mobile app.
The more users engage the app, the more ads are shown which equals more earnings for the developers.
Impressions
How many times an ad has been seen by app users also influences how much developers can earn with Admob. Ads that are seen by fewer users will generate less revenue while ads seen by more users will generate more revenue.
Number Of Ads Click
Advertisers bid for advertising space in the mobile advertising space. Ads are shown to mobile apps that have met the app readiness review and have gathered user engagement. When the ads are shown on apps, the more ads shown, the more revenue it generates.
Quality Of Ads
Some Ads are considered high quality while some are not. What makes an ad high quality is determined by Google.
User Location
While some region earns $0:2 to $10 on cost per mile, some earn higher or even lower. The location of your users plays a pivotal role in how much you can earn with Admob.
Admob Account Cancel
Admob AdSense accounts can be cancelled if they have not served any ads in six months. Google considers the account to be inactive and deactivates the account.
To reactive your account and start serving ads again, follow these takes:
Firstly, sign in to your Admob account and check the checkbox that you would like your account to be restored.
Then click on “re-activate account” and verify the phone number.
Once your account is verified, Google will run a few app readiness reviews which may take 24 hours or even more to complete. You may lose your account if Google finds any issues related to your account.
Apps that require reactivation will have a status of “Require review” until they have been reviewed and are ready to start serving ads again.
Ensure you have submitted an app readiness review before trying to reactivate your cancelled account.
Note that your account will remain deactivated until you fix the issues that have been found on the account.
Admob And Adsense – What Is The Difference?
While these two Google Advertising networks may be similar, they are significantly different due to their specialty, functions, requirements and audience.
The core difference between the two is that Admob focuses on mobile app users while AdSense focuses on websites and blog visitors.
Hence, Adsense allows blog and website owners to monetize their blogs by showing ads from advertisers to website and blog visitors to generate revenue.
Admob, on the other hand, is tailored to mobile app developers. It allows developers to generate revenue by showing ads on their mobile app to their users.
Though Admob still requires an AdSense account for payment processing. When you create an Admob account, you will be required to create an AdSense account at the same time as all revenue generated and reflected on your AdMob dashboard will be processed and shown on your AdSense dashboard to be paid on payday
How Is Admob Different From Adsense?
We have already established the key differences in terms of target audience, usability and functionality, but there are more:
Here are a few distinctions that make the two different yet so similar:
Requirements
Both do not have strict requirements and minimum traffic so far your website and app comply with Google advertising policies. However, to integrate Admob, you need an Android studio of 3.2 or higher.
The App file uses compiled SDK version of 28 or higher, minsdk version of 19 or higher and the owner must be 18 years of age.
For AdSense on the other hand, the website must be six months old or less with quality content that has met community policies. The content must be published regularly and the owner must be 18 years.
Sign Up Process
Another key difference is the sign-up process. To sign up on Admob, users must create account on the Admob website and fill in the necessary details. (Kindly refer to the subheading above: “How to sign up on Admob” for more information)
To sign up on Adsense, users will have to create an account on the Adsense website and fill in the necessary details then proceed to sign in to the dashboard. (More on how to create an account later below)
What Is Adsense?
Google Adsense is an ad network that allows website and blog publishers to boost revenue by showing ads from advertisers to their website and blog visitors.
When it comes to online advertising, Google is considered to be one of the largest platforms for advertisers. Advertisers compete for a space on the Google platform to promote their businesses.
These ads are placed on websites and blogs of publishers who have met the requirements and adhere to all community guidelines.
How Does Adsense Work?
Publishers may maximize their website potential through three simple ways:
Insert the ad code into the website you wish to display ads
To get advertising space on websites and blogs, advertisers bid for ad space in real-time auctions.
The payment and invoices from the advertisers are managed by Google for publishers to get paid.
Unlike Admob which operates on a 60:40 revenue model, mobile developers take 60% of the revenue while Google takes 40% of the revenue for Admob services.
Adsense operates with a 68:32 revenue model.
Publishers take 68% of revenue share while Google takes 32% of revenue share to Adsense services.

What Are the Pros And Cons Of Adsense?
AdSense comes with various Pros, however, there are a few cons although not something so difficult if you are serious-minded.
Here are a few Pros to consider:
No Specific Required Traffic
While it is of great benefit to have a significant amount of website visitors, Google does not place any benchmark for traffic before your site is considered for AdSense.
In-depth Traffic Statistic
With Google Analytics, publishers can track traffic sources and user engagement rates to make informed decisions.
No Long Approval Time
Once your site has met the AdSense program policies and adheres to all community guidelines including having quality content, the approval time is easy and seamless.
No Code Update
You do not need to update the code each time you want to accept new ads.
Access to a large pool of Advertisers.
AdSense Cons
It does not offer a variety of ad formats such as push-up notifications and pop-under.
The minimum threshold can prolong the earning time of new publishers.
Little or no human customer support which can make resolving complaints tedious and overwhelming.
Conclusion
If you are a developer who is planning to make money with your skills, then you may have to consider AdMob as a source of income stream.
AdMob is universally considered for advertising and it is not going extinct anytime soon. It has a low-risk level and pays off in the long run with consistency, hard work and the right skill set.
