In Japan the currency used is called the YEN. Yen is the official currency used in Japan. In the trading world, after the USD and the euro, yen is the next in line for mostly traded currency pair in the market for foreign exchange.

There was a constant appreciation and depreciation of the yen till it got appreciated to a climax of ¥271 per US$ in the year 1973.
This was as a result of an oil crisis that occurred in 1973 which after wards brought its value back to ¥227 per US$ by 1980.
Countries in all nook and cranny of the world have so much confidence in the strength and stability of the US Dollar that they use it as their currency exchange benchmark.
